“I tested AMD FSR 4 on the ROG Xbox Ally X20 and Strix Halo — and the performance 'boost' is a total optical illusion”

Key points

• AMD released FSR 4 for Z Extreme handhelds and Strix Halo laptops via a software update.
• The author benchmarked FSR 4 against FSR 3 across multiple titles at 2560x1600 and 1080p.
• FSR 4 in Performance mode shows improved image sharpness but not universal frame-rate gains.
• Tests indicated some games lost frames with FSR 4 in Balanced vs Performance presets.
• Conclusion: FSR 4 is a meaningful quality improvement, but not a simple one-to-one FPS upgrade.
